Comment on Review: The New Patek Philippe Cubitus Ref. 5821/1A by Russell https://deployant.com/review-the-new-patek-philippe-cubitus-ref-5821-1a/#comment-134204 Tue, 03 Dec 2024 14:37:51 +0000 https://deployant.com/?p=83022#comment-134204 Contrary to your assumption, Patek very much see the Cubitus as suitable for watersports. The latest Patek magazine explores in detail what the new water resistance standards mean and I quote ‘ To provide clearer information for clients, the company has introduced a new, unified standard of water resistance, and as a result, the water resistance standard under the Patek Philippe Seal has been unified at 30 metres. This means that all of the company’s watches certified as water resistant can be worn during aquatic activities such as swimming, waterskiing, water polo, and diving, as well as showering, in practice, no more than 30 metres is needed in everyday use.’

Interesting observation David. Possibly to meet a set price point.

Breitling have the capability too, as a leader in modern high-end quartz.

I was being constructive, but I am biased, especially when it comes to arrogance and disregard for the customer. And that has become more a standard industry practice than I care to recall. And that has been destructive to my passion for watches. If that’s not a “constructive” enough sensibility, then I’ll just end it at that.

We are completely open about being biased. Many other sites sell collaboration watches and pretend to be unbiased. Nobody is unbiased. Including you. Our bias is based on our passion for watches. If that is not good enough for you, and you are not going to be constructive, please go where the reviewers are paid to say good things.

I didn’t say anything about you receiving a kickback. That’s on you. I was referring to the obvious bias and symbiotic relationship to which you admit. And your comment about “every one is” biased is a rather weak argument against a better effort to present at least a pretense of an objective perspective. But, I guess that’s asking too much of you.

You are absolutely wrong if you think there is some kickback coming back to us to say good things about brands. We are providing honest opinions based as our experience as collectors. I have said many times before, we are biased. Every one is. But our bias is not a result of any financial gain, but from our own view as a collector.

The danger about your approach is that someone like Ultramarine watches can get a propagandist review and scam readers into buying their watches that never were intended to be delivered and refuse to refund their payment saying they have no money. And the results of your participation, whether intentionally or not, in part by not doing a better job, are malicious.

I mean, what the hell is that? It’s like they combined some of the lesser parts of the nautilus and the aquanaut and spit this out. There’s no way this isn’t a first draft that they just overconfidently sent out to the world. The smallest bit of market research would’ve told you this is a no. Even a single focus group. This is Patek “really feeling it Mr. krabs,” and thinking they can get away with anything and people will line up for it.

Or a Suite Class road trip to tour the distilleries in Scotland! Good thought. I did that once, but flew low cost carrier from London to Glasgow. Drove around several distilleries in Scotland, including Isle of Skye. Interesting trip.
