What to expect
Titled “From Geometry to Artistry”, VC takes over the shop conservation shophouses in Bukit Pasoh for the duration of the show.
Starting from an idea which is sketched out in the form of a geometrical drawing. Technical extensions are then added. And the shapes, colours, textures are inserted to create the timepiece.
And as described by VC: ” The complex structures of mechanical engineering combine with design; meticulous detail gives life to grace; artisanal intelligence sparks emotions. Based on formal, mathematical study, Vacheron Constantin timepieces are thus endowed with a touch of soulfulness and elegance representing the ultimate expression of artistic talent.”
The exhibition takes up 4 floors. With the reception on the ground leading upstairs to the first exhibit which is a series of concept sketches to show how the watches are conceptualised. On the third floor is where the novelties from this year’s Watches & Wonders Geneva are shown – the Egerie, the Traditionnelle, and the Overseas.
And on the fourth floor, the Patrimony collection is showcased, including vintage pieces from the VC historical collection.
And on the attic, above the fourth floor is a secret room where VC exhibits a a piece of contemporary art, which is dubbed “Le Bonsaï”. This is a mobile sculpture which is commissioned by VC working with industrial design firm, Lanzavecchia + Wai. The work is interactive, and is set to meditative motion when touched. The branches are alive with considered movement, each growing a mechanical widget inspired by VC’s finishes, components and movements.
The duo of Franchescca Lanzavecchia and Hunn Wai runs a design studio founded in 2010 and is based both in Italy and Singapore.
As is the norm for Vacheron Constantin, the exhibits are well curated and beautifully showcased. Sign up with the link at the top for a very interesting experience. We certainly enjoyed it.
